IDFC First Bank has enabled its NRI customers in 12 countries to make UPI payments using their international mobile numbers.
Non-resident Indians (NRIs) can now make real-time INR-denominated payments from their NRE or NRO accounts through the bank’s mobile app or any UPI-enabled platform, without needing an Indian SIM card or incurring any transaction fees.
The service is available to IDFC First Bank customers residing in Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the US, UK and UAE.
NRIs can send and receive money using using QR codes, UPI IDs or mobile numbers, enabling them to use it for everyday financial transactions like bill payments and fund transfers with the same ease and security as the bank’s domestic customers.
“NRIs can use the UPI facility even while being abroad, provided the payments are for transactions within India. Such transactions do not attract any foreign exchange charges,” the lender said in a statement.
